Our Curriculum Plan for This Year

Not Back to School Blog Hop I have spent a good part of this summer planning, in hopes that this will be a super-organized year. Emily is starting the fifth grade and this is our plan for the year:

Math: Singapore Primary Mathematics 5

                 Mathletics

Bible: NT Grapevine Study (finish from last year)

                Training Hearts, Teaching Minds (Mead)

Language Arts: All About Spelling (3 and 4)

                 Easy Grammar

                 Igniting Your Writing (Currclick)

                 Write With the Best

Word Roots (Critical Thinking Co.)/ Roots and Fruits

Science: Simple Machines study- workbook and K’nex

                      Marine Life Lapbook (currclick)

                       Force book (currclick)

                       Spider lapbook

                       Nutrition 101, Units 2, 3, 5 ( Cardiovascular, digestive, respiratory systems)

                        Inside My Body Lapbook

                        TOPS Electricity and Magnetism

Social Studies: Prairie Primer (Farmer Boy)—August

World Cultures study—We will begin with Australia in September, working our way around the world. I’m not sure if we will actually finish the whole world in one year—We’ll see! I’m using lots of different resources including books from Sonlight Curriculum,  Geography Trails, Ultimate Guide to Geography, Map Quest, lapbooks and unit studies that I’ve printed from Currclick, lots of geography games, and the library!

We’ll probably take a break or two from our geography to do a Beyond Five in a Row book or two as well.

Other:  piano lessons

                   Artistic Pursuits

Building Thinking Skills (Critical Thinking Co.)

I think it is going to be a busy year! So much to learn….so little time!  What are you studying this year? Visit the NOT Back to School Blog Hop at Heart of the Matter and link up or learn what other homeschoolers are doing!
