For many years, one of our favorite Christmas/ Advent traditions has been our nightly Advent candle lighting and reading. Most nights, during the 4 weeks leading to Christmas, we gather around our Advent wreath and read a devotional together. Our hands-down favorite has been the Jotham’s Journey series. We’ve read each of the 3 books at least twice through. This year, we are reading a lovely devotional that I downloaded from one of my favorite blogs, A Holy Experience.
Often our Advent readings are followed by singing a Christmas carol or reading through some of our favorite Christmas picture books and accompanied by hot chocolate and cookies.
I think this tradition as helped us all keep our focus on Jesus throughout the season. What are your favorite traditions?
We're reading Bartholomew's Passage this year in the evenings. (We read Jotham's Journey last year.) In the mornings, my daughter and I are reading different devotions and passages from several Advent books. (I couldn't pick just one, so we're doing a little bit here and there from each one.)
