Science Kit Review and Giveaway

I was given the opportunity to review an item from allchildrensfurniture.com, which is part of the CSN stores network. All Children’s Furniture sells an enormous variety of items from  kids furniture to bedding to toys, so it took me a while to decide.

With Emily’s help I finally picked out a Thames and Kosmos Genetics and DNA kit ($24.99). This was rated for ages 10+, but Emily really wanted this one, so we gave it a try. Some of the included activities are—isolating the DNA from a tomato in a test tube, learning about dominant and recessive genes using charts and colored chips, assembling a snap-together DNA model, and breeding a bacteria colony.
I am very impressed with this science kit. It is much more than a box of experiments and projects. This could actually be a complete science curriculum for a month or two for middle school through high school. The 48 page guide includes 20 experiments and projects as well as comprehensive information about cells, DNA, chromosomes, genetics, and famous scientists. As I suspected, it is a bit over Emily’s head :), but we are working through it and I know she will learn a lot. The hands-on component helps to bring it down to her level.

  13. I really want the Creative Playthings Mt. Everest Wooden Swing Set - PL813. we gave our old playset to my baby nephew when we moved to SC and I have wanted a swingset ever since. The price seems really good for a swingset of this size. Enter me for the genetics prize. That looks like fun.
